Matt Chen comes from Shanghai, China. He is a research-informed classroom practitioner in the area of Languages Other Than English (LOTE). He has been academically trained in the fields of Bilingual (Chinese/English) Language and Literature, Foreign Language and ESL Education as well as International Education. Prior to making the move to Myanmar, he has taught Chinese Language Arts, Chinese as a Second/Foreign Language, as well as Chinese B Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL) for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) at an international school in the Philippines since 2010. Additionally, he has supervised the K-12 Chinese curriculum implementation, backward mapping, and assessments based upon the IB's programme standards and practices. He had some positive experience in writing college recommendation letters for his former IBDP students, who have been accepted to study at the University of California-Berkeley, University of Chicago, University of Michigan, and New York University Shanghai. Aside from teaching, he also serves as an IB examiner for Chinese B and CIE examiner for Mandarin. Out of school, Matt enjoys reading, traveling, and learning about different cultures.
